Our Story

John Gater, founder of Coal has a burning desire to bring great quality cuts from field to table that don’t cost the earth. Fresh ingredients cooked over hot coals or served scorching from a stone oven, John believes flavours are best when bold, interesting and healthy.

Three more light up in a blaze of glory and showing a flare for cocktails, we fan the embers and our bar concept bursts onto the scene


They say fire and water don’t mix but Coal proves everyone wrong. Coal Waterside, overlooking the river Severn in Bristol is a hit from day one.


Time to visit our Coal Cattle at Patches farm in Somerset. Farmer Peter Patch sahows off his green fields and pampered herd. Happy cows, happy customers.


Nothing can stop us and by 2013, we are sitting on a juicy stack of six Coals all burning brightly across the UK
